Here's what we did to get our visas. Obviously visa information changes often so check with the embassy before taking our word for it.
Had visa stamped into our passports on the border with Chile. It takes a while and everyone has to get off the bus. All bags are scanned and potentially searched as you cannot take any food stuffs out of or into Chile.

Argentina is one of the few countries in the world that makes the process of visas easier. I like the fact that administrative tasks are taken seriously by government officials so things are well and thoroughly done. When I travelled there, I stayed in a hotel in buenos aires and the check-in and check-out was very simple because the employees were very efficient. I like it when citizens do their jobs well.
